The Toronto natives appear to be at odds once again after The Weeknd released a new song on Thursday that seemingly takes shots at Drake.
The Weeknd released “Lost in the Fire,” an NSFW collaboration with French DJ Gesaffelstein and some of the crooner’s lyrics in the song seem to take aim at his sometimes friend Drizzy Drake.
“And I just want a baby with the right one / ‘Cause I could never be the one to hide one,” he sings on the song, which was released last night.
While The Weeknd could just be singing about a fictional story, the similarities between the lyrics and last year’s shocking revelation that Drake had a secret son are too striking to ignore. Weeknd can be heard singing about his intentions to take his time to find the right partner to have a child with while Drake fathered a child with a French adult film star after a one-night stand. The “hide one,” lyric can also refer to the Canadian rapper keeping his son Adonis a secret until he was called out last year by Pusha T during one of the year’s biggest rap beefs.
On Drake’s “Emotionless” off his Grammy-nominated “Scorpion” album, he rapped,
“I wasn’t hiding my kid from the world, I was hiding the world from my kid.”
Which is what has many thinking The Weeknd and Drake are back to being enemies after years of being off and on friends. Some are speculating that The Weeknd is still mad about Drake’s attempt to romance his girlfriend Bella Hadid during the couple’s six-month-long break in 2017.
