Rapper A$AP Rocky and singer Frank Ocean might have just made babushkas the new fashion trend for 2019!
The Harlem emcee debuted his Gucci botanical flora print headscarf at the LACMA gala back in November where he told reporters that babushkas were the new wave and even urged his fellow guys to start wearing them “from here on out”.
The outfit turned Rocky into a trending topic which prompted the ASAP Mob member to declare on social,
“I’m just encouraging all guys to wear babushkas from her on out. Silk gang, silk city. You know how we do it.”
Now, speed up three months to 2019, and the Grammy award-winning singer Frank Ocean recently shared a selfie on Instagram wearing a white chain-print silk head scarf styled underneath a black hoodie with the caption:
“FaceTimes in Babuska.”
So according to Rocky and Ocean, babushkas are the new wave for 2019. According to PageSix, some designers have already started using the trend in their Spring/Summer 19 runway shows.
Demna Gvasalia of French fashion label Vetements sent his male models down the runway wearing cat-burglar-style black ski masks, while the Italian-based streetwear label GCDS had their models sporting breathable mesh fabric in a summery shade of pastel blue.
