“The Real Housewives of Potomac” Season 8 is fast approaching and Candiace Dillard is applauding the select members of her cast who have better “understanding” on the topic of colorism.
The ladies are no strangers to the colorism debate as “RHOP” faced backlash for how the conversation was handled during the Season 7 reunion. Fans were already upset with how Wendy Osefo was treated during a heated exchange with Mia Thornton where Mia became physical yet was seemingly coddled by members of the cast.
Others were also upset at how Candiace was seemingly villainized for referring to Gizelle Bryant as having “white looking skin” considering Gizelle’s behavior on the show.
There were others who took issue with how colorism was addressed during the reunion as a short segment during the reunion show rather than a separate episode.
Now ahead of Season 8 where all the ladies are set to return along with newcomer Nneka Ihim, fans are wondering what the new group dynamic will be. While appearing on “The Culture Shift With Jeroslyn JoVonn,” Candiace shared an update on the colorism issue as it relates to the “RHOP” cast.
“I think that those in our group who wanted understanding were preveyors of that and those who did not want understanding were preveyors of that,” Candiace said around the 19:15 mark.
The cryptic response seemingly alludes to there still being members of the “RHOP” cast who are choosing not to see how colorism might be at play during their onscreen exchanges. The “Deep Space” singer also thanked the fans and viewers who spoke out on the issue “when it reared its ugly head” on the show.
“The Real Housewives of Potomac season 8” premieres at on November 5, 2023 at 8 p.m. ET on Bravo.
